Addictions Can Sometimes Be a Good Thing....

April 30, 2010...

Sure, addiction to eating healthy or exercising is probably a good thing, but I'm talking about a better addiction: Farmville.

Initially, I thought what is this game? It's dumb, I dig plots and plant things, care for trees and animals and for what? Fake cash? Yes. But I now know there is so much more.

It's not that you move up to different levels in the game and become known as: "Brilliant Farmer" or "Big League Farmer", it's the comments each farmer leaves another when they snatch up special collectibles or mystery eggs.

Sure, 'thanks' would be the appropriate response, but how about "Maria is going to kick my butt for stealing her twine" or "You want me to fertilize your crops? That sounds so wrong."

The group of farmers I hang out with crack me up. I've been given great tips how to move up the farm ladder and have learned only on Farmville can I strategically line up my chickens and calves in confined quarters without fear of a documentary film crew recording the injustices I have created for my animals.

For me, Farmville has started conversations via Facebook's IM which have spring boarded into coffee with a friend I haven't seen since high school and an impromptu get together I initiated for tomorrow.

When I met with my friend, we discussed a Farmville intervention, but as I explained to her, many addiction programs are based on the 12 step premise and as farmers we love getting to the next level. We'd all be clamoring to get to the next step for all the wrong reasons defeating the purpose of the intervention.

I'm happy to report, unlike many of my friends playing Farmville or FV, I do not befriend people for the sake of having a FV neighbor. Of course, it means I don't have the same amount of opportunities to grab loot because most of my friends don't play FV. I feel sorry for them.

Question of the Week....

Thursday, April 29, 2010....

I've decided to make Thursdays my "Question of the Week" day because I always have questions and am always interested in people's answers.

This Week's Question: What is your definition of dessert?

For my sister, it usually means something chocolate. For me, usually really great fresh fruit with cream OR an after dinner drink.

However, my husband came home with a poppy seed bread that had a plum filling. It wasn't even sweet. He had the nerve to declare this non-sweet, help your bowels move bread, a dessert.

I was amazed. I was amazed because it was the first time I asked him to pick up a dessert (usually I'm telling him to put something back) and he rocks at picking out desserts. He has a sweet tooth and he has his own ritual with dessert that always includes consuming whatever with a glass of milk.

For the record, my favorite dessert was consumed while out to dinner in London. Fresh berries, small shortcake and clotted cream (first time I ever had clotted cream). Although my sister made this amazing cake for Christmas this year that my husband reminded me of the other night. It had like 10 thin layers and I remember her saying it was time consuming.

So, what's your definition of dessert?

Rant and Rave Wednesday

Wednesday, April 28, 2010....

Any readers following me on a regular basis know if it's Wednesday, it's time to Rant and Rave about the past week. Without further adieu, here are my Rants and Raves from the past week:

Rave: YogaGirl scored us tickets for July to see Harry Connick Jr in NYC. I can't wait. When she got the tickets, I realized I've seen him perform about a dozen times, and the funniest performance for me, was at the Newport Jazz Festival outside in the pouring rain. He knew the crowd was drenched and went into overdrive.

Rant: Blogger has not been my friend. Yesterday, I was catching up on posts and when I'd leave a comment it brought me to a page with the error message of forbidden.

Rave: My high school never had any reunions, and this Saturday, I'm catching up with some FB friends for an impromptu get together.

Rave: Cold finally gone. Nice weather. I can GARDEN!

Rave: Getting some positive feedback from companies I submitted my resume to.

Rave: I love when bloggers post the 100 thing list for readers to know them better and was especially happy when one of my favorite bloggers, Jules, posted hers. Some things I knew, some I could guess from her writings, and some I was surprised at. I may do one. But 100 things?... That could be a challenge.

Okay, that's it for me. I would love to read any Rants and Raves you want to share? Mish Mash Monday

April 26, 2010.....

Occasionally, I do what I like to call a Mish Mash Monday post. I know there are Random Tuesday posts, but I can't wait till Tuesday to get some of my thoughts up. Besides, this would never be a regular weekly post.

Okay...so here are some random things...

#1 Did you know the Dalai Lama is on Twitter? I follow him, but think it odd since he promotes spiritual well being and I'd think he'd run from technology.

#2 I got an email in response to a resume I submitted that said I was 'minimally qualified' and I may get a call. This made me laugh. I also got an email in response to a resume I submitted asking me to arrange a phone interview via website set up. When I went to set up a time, I was informed to try back later because the availability for my time zone was taken. And yes, I plugged in various time zones with no success on various days.

#3 Last week, I watched Marti's vlog of his place via his dog. This post made me laugh. I think it is because I really do wish I knew what pets thought. However, I swear I think my cat only had several thoughts which were: 1) I'm pretty and you're jealous, 2) I'm pretty so pet me, 3) I'm pretty so you have to watch me walk in front of you, 3) You wish were as pretty as me, 4) Get away from the male in the room, he's mine, 4) Feed me, clean my liter box and move out of my space on the bed; and finally....YOU WISH YOU WERE ME BECAUSE I'M SO PRETTY.

#4 Book Giveaway - Last Wednesday, I mentioned how the author of The Marriage Project was willing to give one of my readers a copy of my book.....well, the winner is......Brian Miller. Brian please email me your mailing address.

Tomorrow, I share my Rachel Ray experience, but today, I'm tired. Very LITTLE sleep will create a whole day of mish-mash, hence the mish-mash post for today.

Rant and Rave Wednesday

Wednesday, April 21, 2010....

Any readers following me on a regular basis know if it's Wednesday, it's time to Rant and Rave about the past week. Without further adieu, here are my Rants and Raves from the past week:

Rave: The author of the Marriage Project is offering one of my readers a free copy of the book. If interested, please tell me so in your comments and I'll choose a winner on Monday, April 26, 2010.

Rant: I've been sick since last Thursday and totally lost my voice on Sunday. I'm slowly feeling better, but wish I could make money with my voice.

Rave: I'm on the Rachel Ray show tomorrow -- as a guest! Not. But I am an audience member.

Rave: My food pantry dinner party is tomorrow night and I am really looking forward to hanging out with friends and having some really great food.

Rant: Unfortunately, I've only lost 1 pound this past month. My fault, but heck it is better than gaining weight.

Rant: My sister, YogaGirl, is having a 90 minute massage as I'm typing this. Am I jealous, ummm...what do you think?

Rave: I think Spring is finally here to stay. Hope to start on the veggie garden this weekend and once I feel 100% better will be spending time in the flower bed.

Rave: I went to this AMAZING cheese shop and picked up some black truffle percorino cheese for tomorrow night's dinner. Yummy...

Vajazzling

Tuesday, April, 20, 2010.....

Vajazzle (Verb):To decorate your vagina with sequins.
(source: Urban Dictionary)

One of my favorite things about YogaGirl is how our conversation can take off in any direction. Today was no exception. Today, I learned that Jennifer Love Hewitt bedazzles her vagina or vajayjays (I really hate this word).

I was speechless. My first thought was a hot glue gun is used to bedazzle a purse; second thought turned to the lady from Celebrity Apprentice who promotes the BeDazzler on t.v. and wonder if that's what she had in mind for her BeDazzler.

Having never possibly conceived that a woman would want to put a glue gun in such a sensitive area, I went online prior to this post to do a little research and I learned this: Women aren't the only ones crazy enough to use a glue gun where they shouldn't, men are doing it too. Penazzle? Penazzling? Pjazzling? Pdazzle?

Why?

Jennifer Love Hewitt said on the George Lopez show how she vajazzled "her precious lady and it shines like a disco ball". Okay, whatever floats your boat.

So, I guess, when you run out of purses, shirts, sweaters or belts to bedazzled, grab a friend, a bottle of alcohol and knock yourself out. Oh yeah, if you do that, make sure you pick a friend who is artistic. Do you really want a bad vajazzle job?
