First, I need to address the stupid groundhog seeing his shadow --- has anyone thought of pulling a blind groundhog out of his hole on a sunny day???? Winter sun on bright white snow, how could he not see it?
Okay, I'm done ranting about the groundhog and the fact it will be another six weeks of winter (my friend told me the groundhog prediction is only 39% accurate - phew)....
This weekend, hubby and I grabbed a bite and headed over to see the Dark Knight at our local IMAX. I know, it was released in the summer, but he hadn't seen it and seeing it on IMAX is really cool.
Saturday proved to be a day full of errands, but included a stop at the local animal shelter where I think we found the dog we want to adopt. She's in heat and not available to adopt at the moment, but according to the shelter no one has asked to adopt her. She's a beagle and very cute. She'll fit in fine with all the howling dogs that my neighbor seems to house.
I also got to witness my new hubby almost kill himself on the roof. A sight a newlywed always wants to witness. He was on a step ladder by the chimney and the very old step ladder broke while he was on it. Luckily, he caught himself and I could only hear what happened. I wasn't up for him doing this stunt and if I had seen it happen, he would have spent the rest of the day with me being worried and saying I told you so (always an annoying way to spend a Saturday).
The rest of the weekend included more errands, good food, drinking and football. Although the Steelers are not my team, I was hoping they would win and they did (barely).
Besides the non-blind groundhog giving us six more weeks of winter, this week is looking good with a confirmed interview later in the week (woo hoo).

Guardian Angel....
Monday, December 8, 2008.....
Ever have one of those days when you know someone is looking out for you? Cheering you on. Ensuring that stumbling blocks are cleared for you.
I don't consider myself a spiritual person, but I do recognize days or situations when fate steps in and actually helps me (I also recognize when fate screws with me for fun).
Today was one of those days. I had an interview in NYC. It was late afternoon and right by Grand Central Station so no rushing was needed from the train station to the interview. No getting lost. No cutting it short because the trains only run hourly into the city until a certain time. This has always been a common occurrence when going into NYC for any appointment. Not today.
Today, I had a nice leisurely morning. Checked the company's website for any updated news and went through my notes from the first phone interview. I was ready and out the door 1/2 hour prior to my train departing. I always love to get to the station early, no matter the temperature. However, today, the time gods abandoned me.
As I was heading to the entrance of I-95, I noticed traffic progressively slowing down, and then, the inevitable standstill. The entrance was in site, but I knew it would take another 15 minutes to get to the actual entrance. I had already wasted 10minutes getting nowhere, so I did the only thing I could --- pulled a U-turn on a very busy road. I have turbo and used it. Barely escaping a car wreck (did I mention that a huge SUV was blocking my ability to see the oncoming traffic I'd be turning into??).
I pulled into the station at the time of the scheduled train departure, but it was late. Yippee for me! I tried to buy a ticket with cash at the ticket machine, but it couldn't give me the change -- unfortunately, too little time to hop on the train to try again using credit card. Luckily, hit up the hubby for some cash yesterday and was able to buy a ticket on the train without annoying the conductor by using the only other bill in wallet which was $100.
I got to the interview in time, met with three lovely women and hope that my Guardian Angel was with me and convinced them that having 3 out of 4 qualities needed for the position gets me in. I'm hoping they realize that I have a brain and could learn the last rusty skill set of mine - financials. They even mentioned setting me up with additional training.
I haven't a clue how I did, but will know more in a couple of weeks. If they liked me, next step is a Finance for Dummies book and a meeting with the CFO in Massachusetts.

Interview.....
Friday, August 1, 2008.....
Today, was my second interview with this company I'd like to work for. I was a bit confused because the first interview was with the hiring manager and this one was with HR. Usually, it is the other way around for me. The HR manager prescreens and then sends me to the hiring manager. So, I'm not too sure of what gives. I couldn't get a great read, but could definitely tell she wasn't repulsed --- that is a definite good sign. However, you ever have those days where everything is topsy-turvy? This has been my day....
It started with the fiance calling me at 6:10 a.m. to say "rabbit-rabbit" on his way to work (for those that don't know..these are the first words that come out of mouth on 1st day of month for good luck). Typically, this wouldn't bother me, but I haven't been sleeping well and I was right in the middle of a dream when his call awoke me (that is the worst). I muttered something, it was probably rude, definitely not rabbit-rabbit and slammed the cellphone shut (if that were a possibility). I ended up falling back to sleep for the extra hour, but am still really exhausted. I forgave the fiance prior to the interview because it is bad karma to be mad prior to any important event and it isn't a situation that warrants staying mad at someone for.
I cut myself with a knife making breakfast, my hair came out horrible and I hit unforeseen traffic on way to the interview .... I was late and had to call. Granted I was 2 minutes late, but, it was still late. Although, I didn't need to call as I waited for 20 minutes (the receptionist didn't call the right desk). When I finally saw the HR person it was after signing away their rights to examine my life and credit history (not quite getting the credit check) and filling out the lengthy work history which was on my resume. It is a bit sad when you have to keep checking the box "involuntary leave" because all the companies, except last one, went under. So technically, is it involuntary if your position is dissolved?
I'm pretty good at reading people, but today, not so good. I'm blaming the eclipse. I won't know a thing till end of next week or the week after, but hoping it is positive.
