Mish Mash Monday

Monday, September 28, 2009....

I had 2 experiences the past few days which don't correlate to one another, but I want to write about. Since the title of my blog is "A Little Blog About Nothing" I guess I can.

#1 Mish Mash - The other night I dreamt I was in a small motorboat, actually it was a rowboat with a small motor, and I couldn't control the boat. It kept going in circles. As hard as I tried to steer the boat straight, it just wouldn't.

Eventually the dam levee that I needed to go over began to rise. It was imperative that I cross the levee, but as hard as I tried, I couldn't. I don't know why I had to cross, but knew if I didn't, I would sink or drown.

Out of nowhere, this woman appeared walking on the other side of the levee. I have never seen her, but she extended her hand to assist me. For a split second I paused because I had never seen her and ultimately gave her my hand. She lead me to safety and when I went to ask her if I could do anything, she said 'no' smiled and walked away.

I've had this same dream for the past 3 nights. Why?

#2 Mish Mash - Many days I don't answer the phone from an unknown caller, but today, I answered a call from the 813 area code (I'd put the whole number in, but Skype automatically puts a hyper link into my blog entry). The initial recording told me I could lower my credit card rate to 6% and to press 9 to speak to a representative. I did.

The representative started his speech and when I asked which company he was calling from he said 'Mastercard, Visa, American Express'. Really? I don't think so. I actually said this with my out loud voice.

When I asked again, 'which company are you calling on behalf of' he told me he had all of my info and just needed to know which card I wanted to lower. My response 'FAT CHANCE'.

I told him I didn't believe him and couldn't believe others fell for this scam. Told him to have a nice day and then hung up.

Seriously? If you're going to scam someone out of their personal information at least be a little prepared. Know if the innocent consumer has a Capitol One or Citibank card? If not that, at least know my name.

Geez....so disappointed to know that scam artists are really pretty stupid.

Facebook

Saturday, February 28, 2009...

I admit it. I've been sucked into Facebook, but it took me awhile to be sucked in the way others have been.

Initially, I would post a status update, loved seeing what old friends were up to, but really used it for one of its gaming applications. I admit, I sometimes am a game addict. However, recently things changed.

A childhood friend posted pictures from class trips from 6th and 8th grade. This started the game of guess the trip or the classmate. I have to admit, I didn't recognize myself in one picture (in my defense, prior to puberty, makeup and tweezers).

I didn't really think I was becoming addicted until last night. I had a dream that random people from my past were at my wedding. One was hanging out on the building overhang using a miroplane grater and a bar of soap. In my dream, this individual was grating soap whenever anyone walked under him --- he was trying to create an imaginary snowstorm. How bizarre is that?

Another FB friend is a reggae musician and he brought a musical instrument with him. I don't know why, but he thought everyone would love it. They did.

I wish I could say I drank too much or had something odd for dinner, but I didn't.

Dreams

Wednesday, December 17, 2008....

Did you ever have one of those dreams where it was so real it woke you up? It's frustrating. I usually end up mad at the person because they've done something to upset me or I can't explain my position. Today was the latter.

Recently, my friend's husband, he's also my friend, lost his job. My gf told me that I was no longer allowed to speak to him as she thought I was a bad influence. I didn't understand what she meant by her comment until she explained that I was out-of-work far too long and should be gainfully employed.

I tried explaining our positions were like comparing apples and oranges. Yes, both were fruit, but that is where the similarities ended.

I have two major strikes against me: 1) the type of job I do is very specialized (although I've stretched the skills to fit in many other positions); and 2) the openings I do find are 1/2 way across the country and I'm not relocating.

At first, I couldn't figure out why I had this dream and now I have. Although I've been diligent about my search, it's still 7 months that I've been unemployed. I think I'm just as baffled by it as others. One consolidation is knowing there is a two to three month lag before hearing back on an opportunity I've applied for (I know this because I track dates and such on an excel spreadsheet - yes, I can be a bit anal).

In real-life there is an individual, not my gf in the dream, who has made rude and painful comments to me regarding my situation. Listening to them has underminded my confidence and the dream helped me realize this. The dream helped me realize that her comments are just chatter.
