Life On Hold....

Wednesday, October 20, 2010...

Before I start my post, let me just tell you, I heard back from the puzzle people and they will send me a whole new puzzle once I send them the UPC code. I have to do that, but am happy they were quick to respond to me.

Now....About my post title....It's like this...For the past two + years, I've kind of have been living my life in limbo waiting for a job offer. I never really realized how mentally exhausting this was until recently. The best way to explain how I've been feeling is to state it's similar to waiting in a doctor's office for your appointment and he/she has you waiting for 2 hours. Sure, you brought a book, but you're running through the back of your mind all the places and things you should be doing, but can't because you're sitting in your doctor's waiting room (fyi: I've spent many hours waiting for doctors and have actually left one after an 1 hour wait).

However, you get my point.

My husband asked me tonight if I gave up blogging, and I said: "No. I just feel as if I have nothing to say".

I guess I do have things to say, but they're all to me. I need to get out of the waiting room and live my life no matter what circumstances I'm in. (fyi: still applying for jobs and have been interviewing, but no word on recent interviews).

If anyone has any suggestions how to ignore the elephant in the room (for me, it's being unemployed), please share.

Great analogy with the waiting room..

I wish I had a suggestion..perhaps a hobby that gets you out of the house. I joined a gym and I love it.

Speak when you have something to say. Dont worry about us. After all, one of your interesting things is worth millions of the bullshit thugs out there.

Volunteer somewhere that is associated with a place you're trying to get employed from. Someone is bound to see you. Plus frome the people you meet, you'll have connections else where!

Is there any way you could work from home? Is it a must that you work? I don't have any ideas for you but I know it is more important that you feel well and take care of yourself. Maybe you could take a closer look at how you are looking for work right now. Maybe revise your resume'. Look in other places and call other people or even temp agencies.

Thank you for the suggestions --

Vodka Logic, I do have a gym membership, but KNOW I should be using it more. I think that may be the trick.

Logical Libby - thank you for the kind words.

Canadianbloggergirl - have volunteer and continue to do so.

TechnoBabe - you'd be surprised at what I've applied for. Full-time, part-time. Things I'm qualified for, things I'm not. Most of the positions I've been qualified for have been pulled. It happened a lot in 2009 and just started happening again. Unfortunately, employers have an amazing pool to choose from and are being hyper-picky. I'll get something.

Brian - I noticed the market is starting to open up. I recently was approached by a company I didn't apply to (I'm taking this as a great sign). One thing I didn't mention to Technobabe is the turnaround time. I interviewed for 2 jobs recently and won't hear until the end of October and one doesn't start until December and the other January. I guess everyone has a limit.

Although, today, I'm participating in a virtual job fair -- 1st one and could be interesting.

Oh yeah I'm glad you didn't give up on blogging! I was happy to see you posted. I sometimes feel like I'm stuck in that waiting room & Omg it's so annoying to see people get up to go in & your still waiting there & sometimes see those people leave before your even seen. Great analogy because it does happen in real life all the time. Keep applying, maybe freshen up your resume? (My mom is unemployed & she recently did that & did notice an increase in call backs). All the luck lady. =)

So sorry you are still going through this. I was there since late last year until April or so, so I think I know a bit of how you're feeling... have you thought of learning something? In my case, I got spinning certified and was considering a photography course when i finally found a job. They don't really take away your mind from it, but they help a little... The hardest part for me was to overcome the depression, to actually push myself to get a shower, change out of my pj's an do something... hugs...

Re the lack of employment dis-empowerment - volunteer. It gives a purpose to the day and you can be as busy as you want. And you'd be surprised how many people end up employed due to the networks formed while volunteering.

I can see why Libby is so Logical. I agree completely.

I think you are working hard which is why you feel burnt out. You are working to find a job, taking that writing workshop, volunteering and blogging. Just because you aren't getting paid for any of that work doesn't mean you don't deserve a break every now and then.
