Question of the Week....

Thursday, January 21, 2010....

I've decided to make Thursdays my "Question of the Week" day because I always have questions and am always interested in people's answers.

This Week's Question: Is there a particular snack you have to have when traveling?

For me, if I'm taking a long road trip, I get Slim Jims. Not sure why, but it is a must.

This is the only time I eat them.

Odd. Very odd.

I crave candy when I'm on road trips. Also, fast food. Healthy, right?

Hmmmm, for me is a hotdog. Must have one.

Slim Jims...Yum!!! I haven't had one of those in years. Okay, I'm so going to CVS tomorrow to buy some. hehe.

Mine is rice crispy treats. It's easy to bring them everywhere. They are addicting. =)

Sunflowers seeds!! Gotta have the 'spits' while traveling... Don't eat these at home either; only when traveling or fishing ~
Followed closely by red licorice!!!

Beef jerky and Skittles.

Easy, high energy, and not too messy. Compared, at least, to fried chicken or lobster.

M&M Peanuts

Beef Jerky. On family road trips that was my dad's fav and he passed it on to me - non-food item must have is audiobooks. It's really the only time I get any major reading done.

Super Spicy Beef Jerky. And a lot of Diet Dr. Pepper to wash it down with.

Long roadd trip? Cereal of some shape and form will be in the car! :D Maybe many shapes and forms! haha

I don't necessarily need a snack but I ALWAYS need juice!

Nuts, coffee and lemon water. Jeremiah jokes that I HAVE to have these things on a road trip or I'll complain of car sickness the whole time.

I like some lunch meat and cheese in a cooler. Hubby likes them on bread or crackers, but I like the lunch meat wrapped around a piece of cheese.
I do like Slim Jims and forget about them most of the time.

my BIL loves SlimJims. I have to have apples and yogurt if by car. I dont like fast food. BUT, on the plane Water galore and dried fruit. And drinks. :)

I HAVE to have cheetos.

Diet Coke (which is a daily necessity anyway) and gas station hot dogs. Isn't that awful :( But I can't help it!

For some reason, whenever I road trip I seriously crave Arby's. No clue why -- I'd never eat it in my normal life. But for some reason, just the thought of it makes my mouth water when I'm out on the open highway.

Sunshine Mama said...

For me when I wouldn't diet, I would want a double shot mocha to go with a scone...our breakfast stop for the whole family was Burger King. On the way back from the trip it was Dairy Queen for ice cream...

Ahh...memories. Now that I'm on a diet...um...egg whites, tomato and chicken breast?

Ha, Ha. Doesn't sound as enticing. I can't eat Slim Jims. They're too hard on my teeth. Ice cream isn't though...just my waist. :)

Have a nice Friday!!

To answer your question about the Wii, it depends on what I am playing. The Wii Fit Plus I feel like is better for toning and overall health. There are some aerobic activities, but most of the time on them is really short. I've been using the Wii My Fitness Coach for the past couple weeks and when doing a cardio workout for 30-45 minutes it does bring on a sweat. It checks in with you on how you feel so if you answer "No Sweat" then it will make it harder the next time you play it. I will try v.2 soon and that one uses the Balance board so I think that may be better for practicing form. Really it can be like working out with DVDs, but you have built in trackers and the excerises can be updated to be harder. And since I work out at home and don't have a treadmill it is more conveniant and interesting. Sorry for the long comment, I tend to babble :)

I must have Andy Capps hot fries on road trips. It's a craving I got after nights of drinking and that transitioned to taking some on road trips! I don't eat them often if I'm not traveling but they are sooo good!

Pretzels, cookie, coffee, and diet soda. Otherwise I'm too nervous.

Stephanie said...

Mine might be equally as odd...arrowroot cookies are my travel snack of choice, oh and gum!

I like caramel bugles! They are so good! I get a bag about every 200 miles or so.

I always need either some Doritos or a honeybun. I don't often get both at the same time. Just either/or. :o)

I just have to have something to drink. I usually buy 3 of those huge Diet Pepsi Max 20 ouncers!

Good question LMB...let's see. I kind of fell out of this habit but for the longest time, whenever I got on a plane I would buy Mentos. Typically the white ones, sometimes the fruit ones. I never buy them otherwise.

Road trips - as LMB knows well, any trip together to the Berkshires involves a stop at our fave hot dog place, Super Duper Weenie. We have been known to stop there while on our way to a spa vacation where we eat ultra healthy. Hence the need to load up on hot dogs.

In addition, LMB and I have been known to purchase salt and vinegar potato chips (her fave, not so much mine) and Crunchy Cheez Doodles.

I am a fan of the Slim Jim and indulge occasionally but usually not on a road trip.

I don't normally eat fast food, but if I'm going on a long drive that starts in the AM I use it as an excuse to get an egg McMuffin.

M&M's always. Never ate a Slim Jim in my life! Hey, did you see one of your followers is flashing everyone? ha! Have a good weekend, xo

Herding Cats – What are you saying? Fast Food & Candy isn’t healthy???

Titania – I love hotdogs and don’t need a road trip to have one.

Melanie’s Randomness – Can you get them in CVS? I only ever see them in gas stations.

Leslee – Sunflower seeds too messy for the car ride and not too filling for the work. Red licorice –yummy and I can’t remember the last time I’ve had it.

Mean_owen – Very true.

Matty – Love peanut M&Ms…also preferred movie snack time treat.

Heather – I haven’t a clue why, but I never see people eat beef jerky at home. Only on a road trip. Audiobooks is a smart idea.

Dan – I love DDPepper, but rarely drink it. It’s one of the few diet sodas that taste like the original.

The Pittman’s – Ahhh, your weakness is????????

Theschmuck – LOL…I thought you didn’t drive?

Nutritious is Delicious – I like cereal, but then I’d start craving milk.

P – huh…juice would make me thirsty for water.

Erin – LOL. Okay, that is funny. However, do you drink the coffee right after the lemon water? Is it a good flavor combination?

TechnoBabe – That’s a good snack, but I have a tendency to forget to bring a cooler.

JennyMac – I like apples & yogurt, but since I don’t usually have a cooler, I would leave them at home. WATER is a must on all plane rides.

Laurnie – and napkins…. 

DSS – Diet coke is a given with me, but the gas station hot dog? I always wondered if anyone ate these or if for show. Now I know.

Notthatkindofagirlblog – How funny. There is one in the next town over and everytime I drive by I think, wonder if any good, but never stop.

Sunshine Mama – I’m just going to say it - - a good scone is heavenly. I rarely have one, but when I do, I enjoy them. How interesting to see what a year has made in your food choice thinking.

Heather – Thanks for the Wii info. Good to know. Interesting that they know to make the practice harder if you didn’t sweat.

Goose – I LOVE those things, but can barely ever find them.

Secretia – I think too much coffee and diet soda, if caffeinated, could make anyone nervous.

ModernMom – Arrowroot cookies? Wait, isn’t that a cookie given to babies? Are they tasty?

Otin – LOL. I love that your supply is tied to your mileage.

AriSpark – I like honeybuns, but a bit too messy for the road.

Blueviolet – I love the large d. pepsi, but I’m odd at my ice. I need it filled ¾ of the way with ice. But, definitely a must on road trips.

DB – I love the fruit ones. Stopping and eating at an establishment doesn’t count as road food. I count that as part of the adventure as it is a landmark (anywhere written up as best hotdog in a foodie mag is a landmark IMHO).

Brian Miller – never heard of “sweet & hot” beef jerky – I thought they were just one or the other.

Joanna – Okay, I have to admit, when I was reading your comment and saw “Rocky Mountain” I thought dear God, don’t let the next word on the next line be Oysters.

Green-Eyed Momsters – Chips are good anytime.

Jane – Really? Wow. I’m impressed.

Spot – I prefer Good & Fruity, but NEVER buy them except possibly at a movie theatre.

Jen – I didn’t know they make jalapeno cheese doodles. I might have to try them.

Unknown Mami – I’ll grab fast food on a long road trip because I’m not going to stop and have lunch anywhere.

Girl, inspired – I like M&Ms but rarely eat them. Like the peanut M&M, I think of the regular M&M as a movie treat if I buy one.

FunnyGal Kat – I love Pringles. I know THEY state they’re potato chips, but are they really?

Deb – LOL. I’ve never tried bbq fritos. Usually regular with dip which I don’t have for car rides.

Prashant – LOL. I’ve always wondered if CVS sells Slim Jims.
