Definition of Clueless.....

Tuesday, February 23, 2010.....

The definition of clueless is the recent conversation I had with my husband which went as follows:

Me: I don't feel like cooking tonight.
Hubby: I know, why don't we have hamburgers like we had the other night. They were tasty.

Ummm....I basically ended the conversation because I DIDN'T WANT TO COOK AND WILL BE MAKING SOMETHING NOW. How does he think the hamburgers and sauteed onions will happen?

Never mind the cooking...hello? Clean-up? Not in the mood.

Officially cranky.

p.s. When I've said this before, a similar thing happened which I quickly told him that when I say I don't want to cook it means we're doing take-out or going out.

Yeah, when I feel like convincing my husband that it's a take-out kind of night, I send him and email at work saying that I don't feel like cooking followed by the link to a menu :) He figures it out pretty quickly.

It sounds he totally wasn't listening. lol.

He obviously thinks you produce the burgers by some sort of magic then?

When I don't feel like cooking I tell my hubby I don't feel like it and ask if he want to cook. That way he has the option to cook or we go out. Smile.

Husbands think the job is there whole responsibility in life?

I think they believe that.

Proud of you for not smacking him with a meat patty.

Not sure what to say. Sounds like he thought you said "I don't know what to cook tonight." You're very patient! I'd have said something like "you know where the frying pan is, have fun" HA.

you mean hamburgers don't magically appear at your house? ;)

As I said the other night (while TEN was relaxing on the couch)..."just so you know..I will not be cooking dinner tonight. so, if you plan on eating, i suggest you cook something".

He said "I don't understand."

Needless to say, he didn't eat that night. Neither did I. Hmph.

Well, obviously, the most difficult part of cooking is coming up with something to cook. The rest of it practically does itself. You were probably expected to thank him for doing all the hard work.

Kate - His job is mostly out of the office, but thinking the tone of my bye and hanging up might have told him.

Melanie - oh he was!

P - Exactly, but in his defense, he said he would cook, and does, but cleaning up NOT. I hate to clean.

TechnoBabe - He would cook, but I also didn't want to clean. God, do I hate to clean.

Secretia – Some husbands, but I’m not working at the moment, so I feel the upkeep of the house pulls my weight. He does other household stuff, but he has gotten used to me doing the dishes ALL THE TIME.

Heather – LOL. Okay, that just made me laugh.

Erin P – It’s the cleaning – he’s not a considerate cook.

Very married – They don’t…I think there is something wrong here.

DSS – This is the funniest damn comment. Thanks for making me laugh. I can picture the puzzled look.

Small Town Mommy – LOL…Funny thing, after he didn’t get my hint, I’m making something completely different. If I have to have dirty dishes might as well be for food I want.

When I don't feel like cooking we pull down boxes of cereal for the kids and everyone fends for themselves. If people are hungry enough they'll find something to eat. Otherwise, a good conversation may clear up the "misunderstanding" Ha, ha.:)

Good Luck!

my boyfriend understands when i dont want to cook but he usually still tries to convince me too b/c he loves my cooking. somethings he will cook but he doesnt cook much so if he cooks it might usually be the same thing. if i'm not tired we'll go out once in a while but if neither of us cook we prefer to order in and watch tv and relax. i love to cook, i do but sometimes i'm not in the mood either.

Haha. Does he think hamburgers grow on trees already cooked?

I'm the one who does the cooking and there are a lot of days where I don't feel like cooking. Fortunately my wife does understand what it means, but then we take just as long deciding what to get.

There are times when I would much rather do something without much prep and I will tell my wife that, but she has something in mind and all of my suggestions are turned down.

Perhaps you can hand him a take-out menu when you say it so he actually "gets it"

Why does this sound so familiar???Hmmmm...have I heard it before? somewhere?

When I don't feel like cooking, we call it "scrounge" night and everyone feeds themselves and cleans up after themselves. Sometimes I get lucky and someone decides to cook. Clean up is never my job. I cook three meals a day most days, I'm not cleaning up. (Which is only rinsing the dishes and loading the dishwasher because I clean as I go.)

my husband does the same thing. i'd say "it's a guy thing" but i hate it when other people say that. like having a Y chromosome means it's okay to be oblivious to everything around you...

Sunshine Mama – We did have a good conversation when he got home and he realized he was in the doghouse. He made up for doing the dishes and finally understanding that I don’t want to have to push back on the concept of going out to dinner.

Marti – If it makes you feel better we didn’t have any. I can’t wait to hear you sing.

Luna – I love to cook and hubby can cook, I just didn’t want to clean up all the dishes and pots and pans.

Eyegirl – Maybe? I have to ask. LOL.

CaJoh – We actually talked about this last night and he said, I get it, but sometimes I need to be strongly reminded. I’m German and stubborn.
I completely understand the comment about little prep and how some suggestions thrown out turn out to be more work than you wanted to do.

Heckety – LOL. Probably.

Spot – Ahhhh…he definitely is good at fixing his own meal, but cleaning up and putting away things he isn’t.

Jaime – Maybe we can just blame their mothers for creating this mindset.

Green-Eyed Momster – I love BK.

Mrs.4444 – It sounds as though it happens in a lot of homes.

KLo – OMG…I love those. My dad used to make them when we were kids. I haven’t had them in years and may have to soon.
