Question of the Week, Part Deux....

Friday, February 5, 2010...

Why did I post Monty Python vs Three Stooges? Well....several years ago, I noticed many of my male co-workers were HUGE Three Stooges' fans (one had a bust of Curly's head in his office) and I just didn't get it.

I don't see the humor in poking one's eyes out, but I LOVE Monty Python. I think it was because it was the first movie I saw in the theatres as a child (I was 7 and my sister, 24, took YogaGirl and I to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail). I also remember sneaking around to stay up late on Sunday evenings to watch Monty Python and loving the opening credits.

Although my male friend loves Monty Python, he feels the Stooges are such 'classic' humor. As the words were rolling off his tongue, he made the fatal error of following up this statement with: "You're a woman, you wouldn't understand".

Sounds like a challenge to me.

Working in a building with 1200 people, I asked people this question and only 1 woman thought the Stooges were funnier. However, 2 men, thought Monty Python were better and I chalked that up to evolution.

Yesterday I asked the question and only 3 people said the Stooges were better (MonkeyMan, I think the Marx Brothers is equally loved by both men and women). Some men commented as kids the Stooges were better, but as they got older, saw the wit in MP.

Personally, I thought I'd get all the yes responses from men and I was wrong. Two were from women.

I really thought you had to have a Y chromosome to see the humor in the Stooges, but I guess my results from yesterday's question could not back up my scientific experiment I performed several years ago. I guess I will not be submitting my findings to the New England Journal of Medicine. Drat.

Oi and I'm the odd one, LoL. Well one of them at least :) I've watched the Stooges since I was really little. We never watched Monty and when I finally did, I guess I wasn't in the mood or something considering how many people like him. I'm not really a fan of Brit humor either though, although Mr. Bean? Cracks me up sometimes too. I'm also into the stupid humor, that could explain it...

Always Monty Python. The Stooges never did it for me.

I prefer The Little Rascals.

I never was much of a fan of the Three Stooges. Perhaps I didn't like the violence that they inflicted upon each other. I do like other physical comedians like Dick Van Dyke, but never the Three Stooges. I do like the sophomoric humor of Monty Python and how it mocks the establishment.

Thanks for sharing,

Monty, now, forever, and always. No question.

Some things are gender specific. Comedy isn't one of them.

Interesting!

I hate the three stooges. Most ridiculous comedy ever. I totally thought it was a man thing too as hubby loves them. Monty Python is okay. But I'm with Peach Tart, bring on the Little Rascals.

The Three Stooges were always lost on me. Preferred Olsen and Johnson. But then, didn't much like Monty Python either. Maybe I was too young to appreciate them.

I'm with you. I thought the three stooges were imbeciles!

I never got why The Stooges were considered to be funny. I'm all for slapstick, but I agree that poking someone in the eye doesn't do it for me.

Now, Monty Python, on the other hand, is and always has been hilarious. I remember things like "There's a penguin on the telly." And the other person said, "Intercourse the penguin." Now, that's humor. And I still use that phrase a lot!

I, too, like your scientific investigation. It's a great idea and can be used to settle so many of life's important questions such as the Stooges vs. MP. Very interesting. Oh, that brings to mind Laugh In! I loved that show!

Now you have me curious. I'll have to ask my husband who he thinks is funnier. I don't recall too much what the Three Stooges did, but I love "The Holy Grail". Maybe we'll rent it this weekend for Valentine's Day.

Thanks for the info on Blue Bunny. I'm hoping to post about them this week.
