I've decided to make Thursdays my "Question of the Week" day because I always have questions and am always interested in people's answers.
This Week's Question is: Would you let any animal lick food off your fork or spoon and then continue eating using that same utensil?
The other night, I had a gf over for dinner and a movie. There was a scene where the woman fed her dog ice cream off her spoon and continued using the same spoon to finish up her ice cream.
I wondered how many people do that. I loved my cat, but always waited till the end or portioned off the food onto a separate plate for just her.

Okay so I know they say that a dog's mouth is actually cleaner than a human's mouth I think that's the phrase but what if the dog just licked you know where. Eww. I wouldn't be able to do it. I'd rather put a lil ice cream in my hand & let them lick it off. I couldn't do the fork thing at all.
Um, that is horrifying. If an animals tongue gets anywhere near me or my food I would just have to die. No way.
No way. Dogs eat cat poop. I'm not sharing my utensils with them.
No way! I am like you. I would wait until I was done and then let them lick it and then put it in the dishwasher.
I love Vito like a human but, um, NO.
I don't think I want to eat something on a spoon or fork that my pet used before me. The pet can have their own.
nah. non humans cant lick my spoon...before it goes back in my mouth...
No way in hell. I do break the cardinal rule my grandmother tried to enforce: wash your hands before eating your food if you've touched anything else away from the table.
She washed her hands a whole lot.
Someone I know gives her dogs the uneaten food off of everyone's plate and it grossed me out when I saw it. And my mom has been using the little dishes that she'd give the cat treats on (we had to put her to sleep). I associate those dishes with 'cat' and even though mom says, "They're washed" it doesn't matter to me. I won't use them. So, in answer to your question, "Uhh, no."
I would like to think that my answer to this question would be "no", but I am pretty sure I've done it before. Maybe not.
Yeah, I can let them lick the plates when I'm done, but the whole eating off the same utensil after they did is not going to happen--as said above: dogs eat poop and rotten meat they find in the woods...and cats clean their butts (and each others' if you have related cats) with their tongue. Not a chance I'd put that in my mouth.
I love my kitties to pieces, but um no. They lick their buttholes.
I don't think that I would. At least, I haven't.
I moved to WordPress. If my feed is no longer updating in your reader or dashboard, could you pretty please stop by and un-follow then re-follow? I'd be so grateful.
The only animal I would allow to lick my utensil is my girlfriend (she's house-trained and everything, well... mostly)
Since our boxer would chomp anything off a fork if I had given it to her, no. BUT, we did share an ice cream cone once. LOL. Dog's mouths = cleaner than human mouths.
No way!
Same as you, will offer a little treat at meal's end.
no way, thats nasty. that thing about a dogs mouth being cleaner than a humans is just a myth, bs, not true. dogs eat anything, they eat garbage, poop, lick themselves, and lick other dogs, etc. no way would i share my utensil. if i give my pets any of my food i would put some on a little plate for them or in there bowl and thats it.
Ewww, not in a million years.
xo jj
I think thats so gross. I would never do it.
No Never in a million years!!!!!!
LOL I'm going to say "no" I wouldn't use the utensil after Koda licked it (and he does lick spoons LOL). I'm sure it would be perfectly fine to do so.....but it just seems a bit weird for me to do so.
hope you have a happy Fourth!
betty
i've heard what Melanie heard about the dog vs human mouth... i dunno. depends on when i last saw her lick her butt i guess... i mean, i let my husband stick his tongue inside my mouth (tmi?) so i guess "gross" is in the eye of the beholder??
ps. then again, my husband doesn't lick butts.
Are you crazy!!!? No friggin way! LOL
Well, I would never let our cats eat off of our utensils, but we do let them lounge on the dining room table when they feel like it, which is usually on Sunday mornings when we're sitting at it, reading "The New York Times."
How cool to be able to see your blog, to know more about you since we were in class together most recently, in A.P. U.S. History, if I remember correctly.
