The Bucket List

Monday, September 20, 2010......

Today marks my parents' 63rd wedding anniversary. My dad doesn't read my blog, nor do I want him to, but I thought 63 years deserves a definite congrats shout out before talking about a Bucket List.

If you haven't a clue what a bucket list is, well, it's simply a list of things you want to do before you die. It's sort of a New Year's resolution list, but better. It's all about the things you want to do, not have to do. For some, it could be traveling to Italy, for others, it could be learning yoga.

Most people in their 20's and 30's don't have a Bucket List and shouldn't. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with Cancer that I created a mental one for me. At the moment, it's on hold due to lack of funds. I may just revamp it to create a Bucket List that doesn't involve any money, but I really haven't thought about it too much until last weekend.

Last weekend, YogaGirl and I spent the weekend with our other sister, Science Girl. It was her 62nd birthday the day the 3 of us participated in the sprint triathlon and on the eve of her birthday she told us one of the items on her bucket list. Expecting it to be complete an entire Ironman competition (she's part of an Ironman relay and biking 110 miles under 10 hours) we giggled when she said to go through a corn maze.

She followed up with hiking to the base camp of some major mountain (name escapes me because I was still processing the corn maze concept and am not sure if I heard anything else).

When we returned on Sunday, YogaGirl started looking up corn mazes for my sister. I wonder if she'd settle for a hay maze? I bet those are easier to find this time of year and in my opinion safer. Didn't she see Children of the Corn?

Does anyone have a quirky item on their Bucket List? I'd be curious to know it. Who knows, it may end up on my list if it sounds fun.

You're right, i'm in my 30's and don't have a bucket list....but I do have a list if I ever won big money, does that count?

I bet there are places here in Nebraska with corn mazes. There is a place near us called Pumpkin Patch and they advertise a corn maze. I am in my 60s and I have to tell you I admire your sister who is so athletic. I am not. I do lots of active things, but not athletic. All my kids are very athletic so I think it missed my brother and me. I do have a bucket list and I have to tell you I have done almost everything on my list. Sometimes I feel like I have lived ten lifetimes. It is awesome. There are a few things left on my list and one is to be a good photographer and another is to learn to play guitar. Nice post, and congratulations to your parents on their super wonderful anniversary.

Happy Birthday to your father!! I want to do as much as possible in my life. See the pyramids, go to AUstralia, see Japan, go to Brazil, anything.

What an amazing gift to have parents that are still married after 63 years. Mine are married 61 years. My bucket list involves a lot of travel to far-off places, learn to scuba, fly in a private plane, drive PCH #1 in a convertible and a fair amount more. I try to do one thing on my bucket list every year but somehow I keep adding stuff to it so the list gets longer. I do love it - it is a fun list to have.

I don't have a bucket list, but I have been through many corn mazes! We overflow with them here in Illinois. They are a lot of fun, especially near dark. Because, let's face it...corn fields are kind of spooky at night.

Happy Birthday to your sister! And happy anniversary to your folks!

I'm in my 30's with a bucket list. Maybe it's because I've been told since age 12 that I wouldn't have a normal life expectancy...

But one of mine is a marathon. And I am running my first one on 10/31.

Hmm - does it count as a check-off the bucket list if you complete it when you're young or does it have to come after "a certain age?" Because one of mine was skydiving and I did that at 21.

LMB, Happy Anniversary to your Mom and Dad! I haven't fully developed my bucket list, but some of the items on it include vacationing in Hawaii, driving a tractor on a large farm and seeing Donny and Marie in concert....I know, sounds a bit patethic...I'm hoping my list gets a little more creative.

Congrats to your parents!!! 63 years together is awesome! I don't know anyone that I'd want to live with for that long. ; )

There's nothing quirky on my bucket list unless you count learning how to cook...at 46.

I would have to think of some big things for the bucket list but here are some small ones:

1) Be able to do shoulderstand and plow in yoga. Currently my stomach and boobs get in the way and I don't have the strength to do it unless I am near the wall and sort of cheat. And then I still can't breathe because of my stomach and boobs.

2) Meet one of my celebrity crushes (George Clooney, I'm talking to you!) and not completely make an ass out of myself.

3) Perhaps do a small triathlon

4) Hole in one in golf - and, if I'm still in good health when I'm older, shoot my age

That might be it for now.

Ok
I just realize now that my list is full of traveling desires...
I've done some of them already (Fernando de Noronha island in Brazil, Santorini island in greece, Mont Saint Michel in France, Saint James Pilgrimage in Spain...) but I still want to go to Seychelles and so many other places...
Well, I also want to live in Paris and to learn how to play the accordion...
I really loved your blog!
I will be back!
;o)
PS.: Your parents are heroes! Congrats!

I have a bucket list, but am a bit embarrassed by some of it. :)

Maybe I should add, "Stop being embarrassed by your own bucket list" to my list.

Hmm...
