Rant and Rave Wednesday

Wednesday, April 14, 2010....

Any readers following me on a regular basis know if it's Wednesday, it's time to Rant and Rave about the past week. Without further adieu, here are my Rants and Raves from the past week:

Rave: Getting ready to head into NYC for the Rachel Ray show AND besides going to the show I get to see YogaGirl.

Rant: I had my own personal Easter egg hunt this week when my dad called to say he locked himself out of the house and lost his keys. After 90 minutes, we gave up. He had duplicates of all keys, but I can't believe we couldn't find them. I went through the trash, all the bushes, car, clothes, dirt (yes, I looked through leaves and dirt). In fact, I bet I looked everywhere you could imagine other than the toilet. Btw, just to let people know, this wasn't a Rant, but more like a hiccup. I think it was just frustrating we couldn't find the keys.

Rave: Had a great weekend. Met friends at the gym Friday night and then headed out for margaritas and nachos (yeah, yeah, I know what you're going to say)and then hubby and I had dinner with some other friends on Saturday night.

Rave: Caught up with a gf whom I haven't seen in over a year yesterday. She's a childhood friend and ALWAYS makes me laugh.

Rant: Mochi. Not only did I find it to be a ball of slime, but it scared away a follower. However, I managed to get a new one this morning. I wonder if describing food as snot is not the way to go in blog world.

Okay, that's it for me. I would love to read any Rants and Raves you want to share? The Green Mochi

Tuesday, April, 14, 2010.......

Ever bite into a piece of food that makes you lick your lips and declare THIS IS THE BEST THING I'VE EVER EATEN? Well....the Green Mochi IS NOT IT for me.

Saturday night, hubby and I were invited to a friend's house for dinner. She was trying out some new recipes, mostly Indian, but with an East Asian dessert -- the MOCHI...

First the first moment I picked up the little green ball I knew I was in for it. I couldn't place my finger on it, but the texture was something I was familiar with. Then I bit into it. The center was filled with dark green stuff -- like puss, but darker (the consistency was the same).

Other dinner guests also weren't loving the Mochi. We discovered we could kind of play with it by stretching it out like Play Doh; the Mochi took on a life of its own.

The one thing that kept nagging me was the outside texture of this snot ball...then....it finally hit me...it felt like Slime, the stuff you got as a kid in the vending machine. Yup. it did.

I apologize to any people who are huge fans of the Mochi. It's just not my thing.

Reality Check....

Monday, April 12, 2010....

"Stuff" everyone has stuff in their life that is bothering them. Whether it is money issues, relationship issues, weight or just actual physical stuff they have to sort through, "Stuff" can spark a whole range of emotions.

For me, my "Stuff" is financial, employment, unfinished home projects, weight, physical stuff and relationships that I'm learning are just never going to be perfect. For the most part, I'm frustrated or angry on a given day when dealing with these things, but yesterday, was reminded how much my problems were just "stuff" when having an IM conversation with someone.

We were im'ing when she just blurted out on IM how she just returned from visiting a friend in the hospital who was going to have an operation to remove the lower portion of her body. Yes, you read right: remove her body from the hips down.

Due to complications of a lifestyle of being in a wheelchair, the operation is necessary to avoid infection and death.

This woman is not only dealing with losing 1/2 her body, but all her womanly parts and her parts where your bodily excrement comes out from.

I know this is a pretty somber post, but it has helped to shift some issues to being just a small annoyance and nothing more.

Question of the Week....

Thursday, April 8, 2010....

I've decided to make Thursdays my "Question of the Week" day because I always have questions and am always interested in people's answers.

This Week's Question: If you won lottery, how many people would you tell?

YogaGirl and I have a tradition we started a few years back. When MegaMillions is over 75 million she buys us tickets and I do the same with PowerBall.

Of course, I call her the night of the drawing and tell her to start packing up her desk because she'll be giving notice to her employer, BUT, do you really want people to know you won it big?

I wonder how many people would come out of the woodwork with their hand out (visualizing the priest in the movie the Jerk asking for a donation to help fight cat juggling) and also wonder if people would treat you differently?

YogaGirl and I know how we'd accept the prize money anonymously, but it's the people who heard about it indirectly.

Just for the record, we played Powerball last night and won NOTHING -- not even $3.

Rant and Rave Wednesday

Wednesday, April 7, 2010....

Any readers following me on a regular basis know if it's Wednesday, it's time to Rant and Rave about the past week. Without further adieu, here are my Rants and Raves from the past week:

Rave: Hubby and I won the annual Easter Egg Hunt and have bragging rights in my family for entire year.

Rant: Stinkin mockingbird is still outside my window. He's lonely and chirps. I've renamed him Mr. Focker.

Rave: Going to Rachel Ray show next week. Hoping for great guests and maybe a giveaway.

Rave: YogaGirl sent me a fabulous Easter surcee (our word for surprise) - a $100 gift card to Starbucks. I don't go too often so I should be set for many, many months.

Rave: Spring is HERE! The weather is wonderful, daffodils and cherry tree are in bloom!

Rant: Issue with tax returns. Our state returns (yes, 2 states) have a glitch and can't be filed electronically.

Rave: Getting tax refunds which is very much appreciated in this household.

Egg Hunt or Blood Sporting Event.....

Monday, April 5, 2010....

Hmmm....the jury is still out on this verdict.

As I mentioned in my Thursday post, my family still holds Easter egg hunts even though there are no children involved in this ritual. Why do we still hold one? Because we can.

No. That's not the reason. We continue to hold them because we're a competitive family and seize the opportunity when we can. However, because you get bragging rights for an entire year we don't want other family members to know that we just might not make the grade when it comes to game day.

Sure we talk smack, but believe that we're supposed to. However, what happens if you know deep down you're going to lose, well, you make excuses.....

Conversation with YogaGirl on Friday:

YG: Hmmm...not sure about Sunday.

Me: What do you mean?

YG: Well, I've been having bad hair days and it may get in the way of me winning?

[note: I don't see the connection and if someone does, please post the logic behind this statement in the comments section because I'm dying to decipher the logic.]

Our conversation continued with excuse after excuse from hometown advantage to not having the right shoes.

In the end, YogaGirl was in-it to win-it (I think she was trying to psych me out). However, because she was part of a team, I felt it necessary to inform her teammate of her insecurities and I understand a pep talk took place where YG was told to go to bed early and train the day before for the sacred event.

Game day.... Our 88 year old father hides the eggs (which includes digging holes and putting chocolate eggs in a hole -- I wonder if he thought the eggs were bulbs since he did this several places with the eggs). Lots of shoving went on -- hubby shoved older sister and possibly Yoga Girl, I shoved older sister, Yoga Girl shoved me and in the end I WAS ON THE WINNING TEAM.

Sure, hubby got most of the eggs, but as this was a team challenge, I get bragging rights for an entire year.

I posted the win on Facebook and Twitter and plan to make it an everyday tag line on my blog.

Hubby and I rule and my 2 sisters can SUCK IT!

......Did I not mention my family is competitive?.......

Question of the Week....

Thursday, April 1, 2010....

I've decided to make Thursdays my "Question of the Week" day because I always have questions and am always interested in people's answers.

This Week's Question: Does your family have a tradition that should have died years ago?

My family has an annual Easter egg hunt AND I will be the youngest one participating this year.

For many years we kept the tradition going so my nephew could have one. Ummm....he's 23 and you think my family would stop....NO WAY.

We're a competitive family and there is honor in winning the egg hunt and first prize winner gets $5 whole dollars!!!

I'd like to say we respect one another, but if you're slowly picking up some eggs we turn into a WWE wrestler and shove, trip and push the other person out of the way to work the area.

It's wrong. I know this (really wrong because we've managed to suck spouses into the game). We all know this, but a WIN IS A WIN!
