I've decided to make Thursdays my "Question of the Week" day because I always have questions and am always interested in people's answers.
This Week's Question: Would you rather be the driver or passenger on a car trip?
99.9% of the time, I love being the passenger. I love to look out the window (we've established I'm a people watcher from Monday's post) and I love to nap on long trips.
No stress of knowing the difference between North, South, East and West (I'm directionally challenged),no stress of staying awake on long trips, AND I catch up on my magazine reading.
Sure, I may be a crappy passenger because I fall asleep, but heck most people choose to be the driver and I feel staying awake is their responsibility, not mine.
I wonder...if in my past life I had a limo driver because that is how much I love being a passenger and NOT the driver on car trips.

I am the driver. Always.
Mostly because I get car sick as passenger, but partly because I'm a control freak.
Right there with you, I do feel guilty when I fall asleep but you're right... not my job to stay awake!!!
There are occasional times I'd rather drive just 'cos I'm a speed demon and can't stand long trips!!! I always have to be the car in front.... don't know why?
I like to be driving.
The passenger. I like looking at all the signs & what you see on the side of the road!! I've seen some reallllllly weird stuff!!!
Definitely the driver, just like KK, I get sick as a passenger, plus I like to be in control and frankly, I don't like the way people drive.
Definitely the driver, I'm like KK, I get sick being a passenger. Plus I like to be in control and frankly, I don't like the way others drive...you know who you are!
Depends on how comfortable I am with the driver. I'm a very nervous passenger, but if I'm with someone I love and trust, I like being able to look out the window and control the music. Road trips with my ex always made me feel super safe and thrilled to be alive.
It's because you're a posh, stuffy, entitled lady with a fancy title (allegedly). Me, I'd rather be the driver. I like to drive. I'd drive you around Ms. B. I'd drive you around at 100mph while yelling, "YEEEEEEHAWWWWWW!"
I would rather be the driver. I'm with kk on this one.
I don't really like long car trips. It's stressful with a family as big as ours. Plus, I realize how much I pee when we have to stop often.
:)
driver...its a control thing...
Driver for sure. Carsick, control, and mainly because I live alone so most of the time I'm driving anyway. Don't like to carpool much either (which could be a followup to this question).
I'm usually the driver, but I love to be a passenger. Only once did I regret others falling asleep in the car as I drove (mostly because I was tired myself).
I tagged you for a meme. I hope you don't mind.
Hugs!!
A brother and I used to road trip our way to San Francisco (6 hour drive) every year, in my 20's. One year, I had to drive an hour to pick him up from work then he slept for several hours before taking over. I was a nervous wreck the entire time (because I really didn't know where I was going). I'd rather be the passenger...but I still can't fall asleep in a moving car.
Passenger. Do not want to spend all that time concentrating. Would rather relax. I'm surprised there are so many drivers here.
most of the time, i'd like to be the driver. it's a control thing...
I prefer to be the driver only because I tend to get car sick. Unless there is alcohol involved, then I want to be the passenger. In front. Or I'll puke.
But for long car trips I'd rather be the front seat passenger so that I can fall asleep.
I'm a control freak so I prefer to be the driver. If I'm the passenger I have to sit in the backseat or I get freaked out and start telling the driver how to drive. It's not pretty.

definitely a passenger. i hate driving.
I always want to be the driver. I get to sleepy when hubs drives! Unless maybe of course, I was riding in a limo...a few drinks and lots of room. I could handle that!
I prefer to drive on the interstates and ride on the side roads
I would always chose to be the passenger. I bring my comfy pillow from home and I am asleep in 5 minutes, and I LOVE to sleep. The motion of the car rocks me like a baby...
I like being the passenger. I like coming up with games and goofy stuff to entertain and keep busy.
I am the driver!
Two years ago I drove from Billings, Montana to Minneapolis, Minnesota in one delicious day. I was practically hallucinating by the end of it, but I was born to run, baby!

I am a very bad passenger. I would always rather drive!
Driver only because the air conditioning only works on the driver side. Well, that and my wife is a sucky driver. (Don't tell her I said that though)
It depends on who's driving. If it's Mr.4444, then I'm a passenger all the way. If it's another woman, on a roadtrip, I will usually choose to be the driver; I've had some bad experiences!!
I also like being the passenger. MD likes it when I sleep on long trips because she says I talk less then. Hurmph... you'd think most people would be pleased with the company!
I can't actually drive so I'm the permanent passenger.
I like to be the passenger, I'm the same like to people watch and see the views you just dont get that as the driver. I do feel bad about falling asleep on the driver..
I am the driver I didn't even have to think twice about that question!!!
Have a nice Sunday!
I am the passenger. I can read maps like crazy and make a great copilot. I love to be in charge of snacks and tunes and there is nothing better than vegging looking out the window.
HOWEVER. Hubs is from Hawaii and never drove for more than an hour his whole life. So, on the three roads trips wehave had in the Mainland, sometimes I have to take over when he cannot handle driving for more than a few hours straight.
I'd rather be a passenger with a good driver. I'm not a fan of driving. I do it when necessary, but avoid it whenever possible.
Kk – My sister is the same, but didn’t want to admit in the comments that she likes to have control of the wheel.
McGillicutty – I’m exactly the same way, but can be in the back ..especially when I have the whole seat to self and a pillow.
TechnoBabe – Many people feel that way.
Melanie – I think that is one of the funniest parts of being a passenger - and I love looking into other cars.
Maria – LOL. This seems to be a recurring statement.
TKOG – Oh, I’m always volunteering if I know the other person sucks OR openly admits they are a nervous driver.
Veg Ass – Exactly! If you were only a US citizen and I didn’t have to get you a green card then I’d love to have you as my driver – do you accept rocks as payment for your work since I can’t afford to pay a driver?
Tasha – I’m realizing there are more people that would be rather be the driver.
Green-Eyed – LOL… I remember family trips as a kid and torture is an understatement.
Brian – Most everyone feels the same way.
DB – I love being in the car with you because there is never any fighting over the driving.
CaJoh – Sometimes, I feel a tad guilty for falling asleep, but seriously, long car rides just put me to sleep.
J.J. It’s a good thing you can’t fall asleep because that feeling of wanting to sleep still hits you in the face when you have to drive.
Sunshine Mama – I am also surprised. I swear, I would love a personal driver.
Jaime – LOL. Seems to be a common reason here.
rxBambi – That makes sense.
Spot – That isn’t pretty. I would have to either push you out of the moving vehicle or bring duct tape with me if I had a front seat driver with me. But, you don’t do it from the backseat? Hmmm….interesting.
Megan – I’m learning we’re minorities with this question.
Alyssa – That is the perfect way to travel!
Adrienne – I’m the opposite – so many cars to peer in while on the interstates.
5 Kids – Exactly.
Blueviolet – If I’m not sleeping or controlling the radio/cd selection then I’m playing the license plate game.
Pearl – Okay, that is nuts! I’ve driven from Billings to Minneapolis, but it took us many days – oh wait, we stopped along the way and detoured to Fargo (don’t ask).
Otin – Good thing you have someone who loves being a passenger in your life.
Cheeseboy – LOL. That is a great reason especially in 90 degree weather!
Mrs. 4444 – My husband hates my driving and ya know what? Don’t care. If I get to be the passenger, I’m okay with him having to drive.
Charlie – LOL. Okay, that just made me laugh. I’d be pleased with your company, I always learn great British terms from you. Btw, I wrote a very flattering post about you and past bosses.
P – Wow. I can’t imagine not driving. Living in the burbs, public transit is available but not used as widely as you would in a city.
Unknown Blogger – Ya know, after about 5 minutes of dosing off, I forget about the guilt.
Deborah – LOL. Neither did a lot of people.
PHST – Wow – you read maps?! I was just talking with my sister about this yesterday and how maps are becoming ol’school because of GPS.
Unknown Mami – Exactly.
