Job searching can be hard, but every now-and-again, I get a good chuckle. Today I received this reject letter:
Hello LMB,
Thank you for your interest in our XYZ position. We have had a chance to review your resume and compare it against other people who have expressed an interest in this position as well.
Unfortunately, we have decided to pursue other candidates who appear to match (skills and experience) our requirements more closely at this time.
Should something change on our side (or we get another job opening that matches your background better), we will not hesitate to contact you.
Thank you again for your interest in an employment opportunity with ABC Company, and we wish you the best in your current job search.
Thanks for sharing your background and for your interest in ABC Company. Our team has reviewed your resume. Although you have good qualifications, we've decided to pursue other candidates who fit our requirements more precisely.
We will keep your resume on file for future possibilities. If you have applied for another opening at ABC Company, your application will be considered separately.
I have to admit, I appreciate a company that notifies its candidates either way (many don't), but am thinking it's overkill to tell me twice I'm not qualified. I got it the first time.

If they hired the person who wrote the letter, would you honestly want to work there? lol!
Ooooo. It looks like someone in HR at ABC company doesn't meet the requirements for his/her position.
Thanks for the chuckle.

JJ - That's true.
ME - LOL, very true.
step 1 - stick the knife in
step 2 - twist
gee thanks...smiles.
Obviously they need to hire somebody to proof read their rejection letters.
I agree with JJ. Inspite of the fact that they were nice enough to let you know the result, it is just too much to rub it in, twice!
sorry, but you do not meet the requirement of being LMB's employer. We shall keep you in our records so as to take your words with a pinch of salt in future
Brian - I think it worse to actual interview with several people from a company and hear NOTHING....
Muffy - I wonder if I should submit my resume for the position, but I think they would tell me again I wouldn't have the qualifications.
Rohini - LOL. I really like what you wrote and wish I could send to them.
What this company needs is a good editor.
Ridiculous! I'd be tempted to write them back and repeat a paragraph three times to see if they got the hint.
But I'm really petty.
LET - I thought about that, but let it go. However, the company is a pretty well known one.
This is hilarious! The importance of proof-reading is clearly not stressed at that company..
LMB, you know which part I hate about these letters is the part when they state "if something should change, we will contact you." Not once in my life has that ever happened. what a crock, just say you don't want me
Dear ABC Company,
Too bad you just don't know how fabulous I am and what a great worker I would be. Bite me.
Sincerely,
Ms. LMB
oh, the things we'd like to write back!
Dree - You think it would be since it's pretty well known in the States.
maria.palermo - okay, your comment cracked me up. It reminded me of breaking up with someone and telling them 'it's not you, it's me' to soften the blow.
DB - Oh...the 'Bite me' adds such a personal touch...
After looking at that letter, I am thinking THEIR HR department is seriously unqualified. Can't imagine them being able to make a good proper choice of someone to hire, hence your rejection. They just have no idea what they're doing...
