Scavenger Hunt....

Monday, October 6, 2008.....

This past Saturday my sister organized an interesting get together for my "bachlorette/bridal shower" party. I didn't want the the traditional bridal shower, nor the bachlorette party where everyone gets drunk and I'm hungover for days and days -- only reminding me that as you get older you don't spring back as quickly when I was in my twenties.

Her only description of the event was that we'd start in the afternoon and she'd tell me how I should dress. I immediately concluded that she was organizing a paintball event. I was wrong.

We met at my house and took a train into NYC for a scavenger hunt organized by Watson Adventures (http://www.watsonadventures.com/). I've actually done two of their hunts in the past and will say they are well organized and it is an interesting way to see a museum or a part of a city in a different light. Watson Adventures customized the hunt for my sister and it was just my group of friends.

The groups were evenly divided with friends I've known since I was 5 (I'm 43 now), college and ones that I've met as an adult. It was a nice way for each one of my friends to meet another friend of mine from a different walk of life. I noticed as I looked around the bar in Grand Central before starting the day that there were common threads among the group other than going to high school or working at the same company together. Some were passionate about golfing; others loved yoga, a lot were mothers and others I learned quilted (I have to admit, I've tried and have no patience so I'm in awe of these individuals).

After the hunt, which my team lost (think it was rigged), we had dinner at a great burger joint. I have to admit, a great burger is always hard to find and I always appreciate them when I find them. To further break the ice, I decided the group needed to play "Fuck, Marry or Kill". If you haven't played, it is a definitely a great ice breaker. Basically, you give a person 3 names and they have to tell you who their would "F, M or K". I do apologize to my 3 of my friends for doing the 80s throwback, politicians and reality show stars. Although, my friend's face was priceless when I said Flavor Flav to her. Unlike the women on the reality show that found him incredibly sexy, here were 12 women that clearly wouldn't be applying for his show if there were a Season Three.

We ended the evening at this great champagne bar, Flute, on 54th Street. Always a good day when you can start and end your day with champagne.

I hope that everyone had as much fun as I did. I hope that everyone knows how happy I was that they took time out from their hectic lives to spend the day with me. It really was wonderful!

Thanks again sis for making this all happen. Six more days and counting.
