Rant and Rave Wednesday

Wednesday, October 7, 2009....

Any readers following me on a regular basis know if it's Wednesday, it's time to Rant and Rave about the past week. Without further adieu, here are my Rants and Raves from the past week:

Rave: Started a dinner club that will not only create fun evenings with friends, but help out the local food pantry.

Rant: Scumbag that tried ripping off my dad with a fake sweepstakes scheme (posted about this Spidey Man and the Bandits)

Rant Gourmet magazine going out of business. I LOVE that magazine.

Rave/Rant: I caved in and am now the owner of the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD. I've read so many bloggers having great results with it, but don't think they got results from sitting on the couch, eating some coconut gelato and just watching it. Yeah, I did that. Coconut gelato is heavenly. I actually plan to do the program, but wanted to know what I was signing up for.

Rave: Got to see gf yesterday for lunch and was able to eat outside by the Saugatuck River.

Rave: I was bestowed with the Over the Top Award from Actual Scale that has this crazy meme attached to it. I'm stoked. One word answers reminds me of 'What is Jeopardy Alex'? and I love Jeopardy. I'll either post this meme tomorrow or on Award Sundays.

Thanks Actual Scale.

Rant: Insomnia. It's back and larger than life. I could rant about several other things at moment, but am just too exhausted. Worst part, when I have been able to sleep the past few nights, I dream about people who have been really mean to me in the past and wake myself up. They're in my past for a reason and I don't want them visiting me when I'm trying to get some sleep.

That's it for me. Any Rants and Raves you want to share? I would love to read them. Just click on the linky thing. This way, I won't miss a person that wishes to post their own R&R Wednesday. I hope it works again.

I Shredded and loved it. The first day or two sucks, but after that you feel better. My rave today is frozen applesauce. If you have never tried it, go for it. It is kind of like an italian ice.

Hah, we are definitely the same with previewing the dvd. :) I still haven't gotten into a surefire every single day routine, but Jillian is tough and I can definitely see where people get results! Let us know how you like it! :)

I'm sorry that someone tried to scam your dad. That is so sad. I'm sorry about the mean people in your dreams too. I hope that you stop having them.

Good for you regarding The Shred. I'm just not that motivated.

Great Raves!

Hugs!!

I can't remember if I tried 30 day shred off of netflix one time. I watch the biggest loser and she would motivate the he'll out of me! Keep us updated on how it's working

let me know how that Shred is; I have heard good things about it

sorry about the insomnia and the derams that come with it; like a double-whammy; can't sleep but then when you finally get to sleep you are haunted by those dreams

I still think your dinner club is one mighty clever idea!

I just started following you so I didn't know about Rant and Rave Wed. I will play next week.

I did The 30 Day Shred for about 2 weeks - maybe 2 1/2. I really liked it but the lunges and jumping jacks were too hard on my knees. (You're young though.)

I'm sad about Gourmet magazine too.

I've heard of lots of people doing this Shred thing too - I think the gelato sounds much nicer!

Sorry to hear about the insommnia. My dh gets it every few years & he is miserable. Generally a combination of relaxation mp3s he finds for free online plus a daily dose of Melatonin helps but it does take a few days to kick in.

Coconut gelato...Oooooh, I'm coming to your house to view workout DVDs. That is the way to do it! lol

Glad you stopped by my blog today! I'll be coming to yours too! I'm always on the look out for interesting blogs! :)

I hate insomnia! You can't get to sleep all night and then you are tired in the morning!

Good raves. And I get insomnia too. I hate when I lay awake all night, and then when it's time to get up for work.....NOW I can sleep.

Spot said...

I totally sympathize with the isomnia, I don't often have it, instead I get the half awake/half asleep deeply disturbing dreams. And always on a night when I really need the sleep bc I have a big day the next day!

And coconut gelato sounds heavenly!

My rave is that it is our eight year anniversary today and it was a beautiful sunny day. I was in a great mood all day. My husband got me a mallo cup, which I ate one so far and I also ate 3 oz German chocolate cake and pretty much stayed within my calories.
Rant? Can't think of any right now.

That stinks about dreaming about people who are mean to you.

Hah! Too funny.

Insomnia - know how that goes. Hope you sleep tonight.

The post about your dad stuck with me so much that I had to tell my husband about it. It's just infuriating.

I got the 30 Day shred too. I haven't been doing it everyday though.

Hi Little Ms! Hey, this is really cool, I wasn't expecting it so unfortunately I'm completely unprepared.

Anyway, I wanted to say thanks coming by but hurry back over to my blog! You get one more entry, for posting a comment, that I don't want you to miss out on! Good Luck! :)

I'm with you! I can't believe Gourmet Magazine is going out of business :-( I'm so disappointed.

Sunshine Meg – I remember you raving about it. Frozen applesauce – hmmm… I saw that on a cooking show and wondered it was good. I might have to try – great dessert and it counts toward my fruit requirement.

New England Girl – I will. I love her comment about the jumping jacks and how she won’t give the modified version because 400 lb people can do them.

Green-Eyed Momster – I’m sorry that scumbags exist. I just wish I had more Raves than Rants. I’m so happy you got rid of the mean monkey on your back.

Goose – I will and part of the reason I wanted the dvd is because I knew it worked for Sunshine Meg and I wondered if Jillian screamed at you.

A corgi – so have I. If I survive, I’ll let you know. You’re right about the double-whammy. It even happens when I try to nap during the day (the insomnia is now making me physically sick – thank heavens I’ve been eating healthy, can’t imagine a bad diet + no sleep – eeks!)

Kyslp – Yay! I love reading what make people happy or pushes their buttons. I think you may be younger than me, so we’ll see about the knees.

Lady Mama – My sister suggested I wear black and make a flambĂ© to mourn the death of Gourmet Magazine.

Actual Scale – Stress + hormones is my problem. I’m going to try to up my meditation.

Meeko – Love your blog. Thanks for stopping by.

Otin – Exactly and you don’t want to nap because you want to sleep that evening – ugh!

Spot – Oh that really does suck. For me, I’m never able to shake the weird dreams. The coconut gelato was wonderful.

Sunshine Mama – Happy Anniversary! Still want to know what a mallo cup is.

Midlife Jobhunter – I wish I could get positive results from sitting on the couch eating coconut gelato, but sadly not.

Unknown Miami – It is infuriating and upsetting that we are probably going to force some changes upon him. I hope he’ll be receptive.
Have you noticed a difference?

Yeah, I’m Still Here – I went back and posted another comment. Thanks for the heads up. Great tote – great giveaway.

Joanna – I can’t believe it. I really wish a foodie with a lot of money would come and save them.

Midtown Girl – Okay, that is funny, but I completely understand. I suck at techie things.

You crack me up with the eating coconut gelato on the couch while watching the Shred videos. That is SO something I would do. I can't work out at home. That's why I have to go to the gym (there are no couches there). ;-)

Is the thirty Day Shred about a new way to tidy your house? I've not heard of it...I think the Dinner Club is a magic idea! I wonder whether I have enough friends to try it???

McGillicutty said...

It's Friday can I still rant and rave i have a lot to rant about... and maybe a wee bit to rave.
Dinner clubs Rock...
Fitness dvd's do not rock for that reason..you watch them from the couch...always...without exception.

Optimistic Pessimist said...

i've heard a lot of people mention they were going to do the 30 day shred. what exactly is this? id it an exercise program, or is it a diet too. i can't diet. i always fail.

McGillicutty said...

ok i added the wrong link to mr linky and then corrected it... i can't get the hang of these newfangled things!

Tasha – The gelato was yummy, but hasn’t helped me tone up.

Heckety – 30 day is a Jillian Michaels dvd. She’s a trainer on the show The Biggest Loser (not sure if they show it in Ireland) and she yells and screams, but gets results.

McGillicutty – I’m stoked about this dinner club. I will do it, am uncoordinated and needed to see what I was getting myself into.

OP – 30 day is a dvd. No diet. But, I don’t think you have to worry about getting your exercise in at the moment.
