Question of the Week....

Thursday, March 18, 2010....

I've decided to make Thursdays my "Question of the Week" day because I always have questions and am always interested in people's answers.

This Week's Question: Are you a celebrity news junkie?

Note: For purposes of this entry, I am defining celebrity as any political person (elected or royalty), actor/actress, powerful business person and sportsperson.

Earlier this morning, my sister, YogaGirl, called me on her way to work. We chatted a bit before she brought up the rumor/news that Sandra Bullock split from her husband.

I like Sandra Bullock. I know many people don't, but even if you don't, you have to admit, if the rumor is true, it must be hard to have one of the happiest moments in your life coincide with one of your saddest.

I probably wouldn't have heard about Sandra Bullock's split unless Yahoo did a big splash about it on their homepage because I'm not a celebrity news junkie.

This is not to say I'm not interested when anyone tells me about so-and-so, but if left to my own devices, I'd probably hear about the story in question a week after its happened.

How about you? Do you love celebrity gossip? Subscription to any of the entertainment magazines or a watcher of any t.v. entertainment shows like TMZ or Entertainment Tonight?

I hate celeb news...I am so sick of clicking on MSN to see Tiger Woods and such....I read BBC news

Sometimes. In small quantities. I cannot handle it when something is mentioned a million times though. Really people? We are still talking about Brad/Angelina/Jennifer? It needs to stop.

I don't love celeb news, I don't mind if I am the last to know. But at the same time if I do happen to hear about it as it happens I will happily listen to or read the news that's there in front of me.
Basically I'm indifferent to the whole thing.

I definitely like Celeb news, but not a junkie like your sister Yoga Girl. I'm sad about Sandra Bullock, but just like Tiger, once a cheat, always a cheat!

I dislike celebrity gossip I have to say because it feels like voyeurism and its just banal. Sure I'm sorry for them if something bad happens, but I'd feel the same way anout Mrs B down the road.
Actually, I'd mind more about Mrs B!

I used to be. I used to watch Entertainment Tonight and TMZ religiously.

I like Sandra and her husband. I hope they're just going through a rough patch in their relationship.

I feel sorry for some celebs. They are still human after all.

I never want to be famous because I would never want people to know where I am and what I'm doing. It's nobody's business but mine, you know?

Hugs!!

You've just reminded me I bought two celebrity gossip magazines today. I feed on them. I prefer them over other magazines because they don't have as much advertising.

I take it all with a pinch of salt. The same magazine can contradict its news in the same issue. But I love it all the same. It's entertaining.

Poor Sandra though. (If it's true). I love her.

I do love Sandra... I want to be her. She'd play me in my life movie (not as a blond tho).

But no, I'm not into the celeb stuff. My fave radio station does a minute long 'entertainment schmig' in the mornings that I listen to, but that's about it. I don't watch the stuff on tv or buy magazines. I figure its pretty much all trash anyway =)

I am sooooo NOT a celebrity news junkie. Probably because any time any of them sneeze (here in L.A.) it's "breaking news".

Having said that, they mentioned on the news last night that several Oscar-winning actresses have had their marriages break up shortly after winning. They said it's because 'the man is perceived to be the breadwinner and it hurts his ego when the wife makes more money/gets more attention'.

I bet a man came up with that excuse. lol!

Weeelllll i have to say I'm not so much a junkie, but like you I heard the news from someone else then took a look at People.com.
I feel bad that being a celeb seems to mean being out there for anyone to say anything about you they want to.
It's sad... I hope they work it out.

Well, I think we all know my answer and I am LOLing at Maria's post. YES YES YES I am a celeb whore. I kind of explain in in the sense that I am a fan of most pop culture and celeb gossip seems to be part of that world. My People subscription is the best $100 I spend each year (although I hate that it's that pricey) and as a matter of fact, once I am done wasting time online tonight, I will be curling up to read it. I will say that the incessant press inquiries is ridiculous and at some point even I, the celeb junkie, am thinking - okay, I am over this.

But I do love it....

LMB, let's face it - you do love when you scoop me on such matters. Which isn't all that often.

Fun question today!

I don't subscribe to any of the celebrity news but the regular news has been carrying stories about Sandra Bullock. I do like her and am sorry to hear of the hard time she is having now especially after she has been helping her husband with his children and trying to make their lives better.

I don't just like celebrity gossip, I LOVE it. Live for it, breathe it. I'll call my sister and go, 'Did you see the Jessica Simpson interview?' and she and I will analyze it for ten minutes before hanging up.

It's just so damn entertaining.

I used to love it a lot...but now I dunno it just annoys me to hear about celebrity dirt. I'm over it...there's more important news in the world to be heedful of.

Swami sez: the answer is no. I am probably the person least likely to recognize and or follow a celebrity.

The only people I follow is brief stints of new musical artists whose music I fal in love with. Even then it usually consists of one Google session and then done.

I like to watch the regular news shows but that have 5 minutes of commercials every nine minutes.

It is interesting seeing that the celebrities are as unhappy as the regular people.

It's better to be unhappy with a lot of money!!!

Adrienne – Tiger Woods was bad, but Michael Jackson and Kate Gosselin info lingered for months and months. Did someone need several funerals? Didn’t his body smell when he was finally laid to rest (I think there were weeks or months before his actual funeral).

Yankee Girl – So true. I think there was a blurb about how awkward she appeared announcing Brad’s movie at the Golden Globe and I thought, Really? I doubt it.

Marti – Aren’t you bombarded with news of the Queen, Prince Charles and his kids on a daily basis? I think celebrity news is a bit more in your face in the UK and imagine it would be hard to ignore.

Brian – Actually, although my husband is a news junkie, I won’t watch the news on tv because it depresses me so. I like getting my news online because I can select the story I want to read. Most times it is not celebrity news.

Maria.palermo – she is a celeb junkie isn’t she? However, she hasn’t been published in the letters to the editor section of People like you have….so, you may be more of one than her.

Heckety – I think you nailed it on the head. I think many people feel a connection to celebrities because they are visible on t.v or in the movies and need/want to know more about them because they see them all the time. I’m not sympathetic for celebrity woes, but I emphasize with people I actually know.

Green-Eyed Momster – I wouldn’t want to be famous for that same very reason.

P – LOL.. My sister is the same way. In fact, I tease her about People and tell her that she has to find a man who understands her ritual of reading People every week.

rxBambi – I’d have her play me too! She always plays characters who are down to earth, sometimes clumsy and can laugh at themselves.

J.J. – LOL. I’ve heard that about couples who are both actors and the wife’s fame exceeds the husband’s. However, I don’t think that concept is limited to Hollywood.

McGillicutty – I admit, I do the same thing. Hear the news and look it up, BUT, I don’t limit this practice to celebrities. I’ll google neighbors or people I know and when I was online dating, I googled dates.

DB – Yes you are! If you want, give me a $100 and I’ll make up juicy celeb news for you.

La La – Kate and Jon? Are they still on the air? I’ve heard about perezhilton.com, but have never gone to the site.

TechnoBabe – I find out my celeb news from the regular news or my sister. My sister usually scoops the headline news.

Living Shallow, Living Well – LOL…

Youthful Wisdom – It is a good diversion at times.

Dan – LOL. If you told me you were a celebrity news hound I know you’d be lying or I’d be shocked beyond my belief.

Secretia – I agree. Money will cushion the blow when feeling crappy. It is one less thing to worry about.
