Kripalu and The Grammar Girl

Friday, April 3, 2009.....

This weekend couldn't come at a better time. Wednesday, I heard the position I interviewed for, was pulled. Ironically, this is not the first time I've had this happen to me. Many employers are "window shopping" for the perfect candidate, but don't have the budget to pull the trigger and hire. I'm becoming accustomed to this, but wasn't prepared for the recruiter's reaction on Wednesday.

He whined to me. He whined to me about his personal fears of losing his job. I try to be empathetic, but after 11 months of being unemployed, I don't have it in me to placate another person's fears over the possibility of losing their job. I wish I could say he's unique, but no. Others do this to me. Typically, I handle this well, but right now, I just don't want to hear it.

My energy is low and I'm in definite need for some "head clearing" (I believe head clearing should be an activity like skiing).

Several months ago, my sister asked if I'd be interested in this workshop at Kripalu grammar girl workshop. I admit, I hadn't a clue who Mignon Fogarty was, but really liked what I read. I'm looking forward to her workshop and staying at this retreat center for yoga, health, and holistic living. The atmosphere is peaceful and I plan on spending some time meditating.

I can't wait! A weekend of learning coupled with a zen-like atmosphere is just what I need.

Woo Hoo!

You have my sympathies on the job thing. A couple of months ago I was all set up for a consulting job when I get a call from the contact person. The gist? he'd just been fired and the project canceled. He had the decency to call and let me know what was up, it had to have been hard to do so.

Enjoy the workshop.

A meatless weekend with a woman named Mignon... there's a joke in there somewhere... I was going to say that you'd really enjoy her as she'd be wrapped in bacon (everybody loves bacon)... alas, no.

Hopefully, =) it will be a great weekend.

That's exactly what I need, too. Can I come? I'll be quiet...

What a great idea to clear your head, and just 'cleanse'. My sister-in-law does that for a month once a year, and she swears by it. Very helpful, and you learn alot about yourself. Let us know how it goes for you, I'm curious. And good luck with other job prospects,-I'll be rooting for ya.

The guy whined because he might get fired, when you, in fact, had no job? That's a bit insensitive.
At least the zen weekend sounds fun. I'd enjoy it.

Dan - Thank you for your sympathies. I know I just have to ride out this economy. I'm sorry to hear about your job being cancelled. I can't believe the guy could focus to call you. How thoughtful.

Workshop was great and she definitely takes her position as a grammar expert very seriously. She researches everything, but is very approachable.

LiLu - silent breakfast was a killer for me. I'm not a chatter in the mornings, but I hated that I wasn't allowed to talk. Plus...no diet coke..... Other than that, perfect time.

Chelesa Talks Smack - it was just what I needed.

angelsroy33 - your sister detoxes for one month per year. I'm impressed. I was dying without diet coke and tried kale for the first and last time - yuck. I did love the chance to shut down and just be. That part was fabulous.

Andy - Yes, the guy whined. I don't get it. However, many people feel comfortable around me and just open up. Sometimes it is TMI. It is nice to know that people feel comfortable around me, but I could have lived without it.
