Rant and Rave Wednesday

Wednesday, August 25, 2009....

Any readers following me on a regular basis know if it's Wednesday, it's time to Rant and Rave about the past week. Without further adieu, here are my Rants and Raves from the past week:

Rave: I've noticed the time from resume to rejection or interview has shortened greatly. Initially, I was seeing 3 to 6 month turnarounds and last week, I submitted a resume on Friday and had a phone interview today.

Rant: In my opinion, I will not be getting this job. It is not because of my primary skill set or experience, it is because I don't have hardcore technical knowledge. Unless the hiring manager is willing to take a chance, which I get the feeling he's not from what the recruiter told me, I can kiss this job goodbye. On a positive note, the recruiter liked me.

Rave: Ipod. I love this invention. I love that when I do my 30 minutes on my awesome stationery bike that I can have my own karaoke/American Idol session. Best part, I suck, but I'm the only judge. Who cares if I don't know all the words, sing off key, it passes the time away.

Rant: Reading an 'okay' book. Ever read a book that takes forever. Your expectations were higher than what was delivered, but you can't put it down. You're hoping that with every new page, things will get better. I'm still waiting.

Rant: My arch nemesis, bunny, doesn't appear to be frightened of me. He will stand 5 feet away from me and continue to chew on my cucumber plant - WTH??? Shouldn't I appear as a giant to him? Shouldn't he be running? Nope. He just mocks me.

Rave: Space saver bags. Ya know the ones you see on the info commercials - the ones that reduce a king size comforter into a small package....Well, it works. Yay for me...This product gives hope to all people who live in very small Cape Cod homes built in the late 1940s.

Rave: Hubby returns from a 7 day fishing adventure with his brother. No fishing because of the hurricane, but no return of the husband because his brother wanted to stay where they were.

Rant: I have to clean my fridge out. I hate doing it, but the show Hoarders on A&E has motivated me to kick it into high gear.

Rave: Living and Loving LA bestowed this gem on me the other day:

There are things I need to do and will in a separate post - Thanks L&L LA!

That's it for me. Any Rants and Raves you want to share? I would love to hear them. Green Eyed Momster and Matty Thoughtshave posted her own R&R Wednesday. Check it out. That's it for me. Any Rants and Raves you want to share? I would love to hear them.

Rant: People who skim work related emails and send an email asking questions that are answered in my original email!

Rave: I am going to see my family for 9 days!!!!! I can not wait to get to Seattle.

Love your post. Hope the book picks up. And that is one fearless bunny.

Rant: Ah! At work, people who get on the elevator at the 6th floor and ride it down to the 5th. If they have a limp or a handicapped - of course I don't care one bit. But honestly, it is one flight of stairs. The worst is if they do it on a Friday when you are just trying to get out of the building!

Rave: Going home to Cincinnati Friday for one day. Saturday is filled with wedding planning and turning around and driving back. This trip may involve my mom's chocolate chip cookies. RAVE, RAVE, RAVE!

If you are at the gym, note the people around you shooting daggers out of their eyes at you or laughing and pointing.

If you are at home, rock on! You're number 1! You're number 1! You're number 1!...

There are a ton of squirrels like your bunny around our house. And their not like cute chubby nut-nibbling squirrels either. They're scrawny, mangy, loud pissed off little squirrels. Very very strange.

Rave: I once posted a blog about how I needed my fridge clean and my friend came and did it! True story... and a hint....

Rave: I Love my iPhone... LOVE IT.

Rave: I love your blog ;)

Rant: I could not share my meatball sandwich with you at lunch. It was pretty tasty.

at least the interviews are coming along; there was a time my 20 y/o son wasn't even getting any interviews for all the jobs he was applying for; he's gotten more interviews lately which to me could be a good sign that things might be starting to turn around? So hang in there.......

I know what you mean about books, and worse yet if you spent the money to buy it, you want to hang on to it more rather than a library book that is so easy to just return

Rant: I forgot all about it today cuz I was so happy about the award/ so sad about Pharm Fri.

Rant: You live on Cape Cod? Is is crazy there or what? We were told not to go last week cuz of the traffic.

Rave: Your blog and Rant and Rave Wednesdays.

Rave: He? liked you so he will keep you in mind for another opening? Maybe?

Rant: I don't have an Ipod or and Iphone but I received a cell phone for my birthday and all I get are wrong numbers and spam and I've let it die twice in 1 month.

Rant or Rave? Catch the bunny and keep it as a pet?

Hugs!!

I have a 50 page rule on a book! If I am not interested by that time, I give it up!

How are your ribs doing?

I am loving the rants and raves, I will have to do this sometime.

Rant: I am looking for jobs too and right now the time between applying and hearing back usually is 24 hours because I get the crappy rejection form letter....also lately, if I've heard from the recruiter, then it seems to take forever to hear about the job's progression, and in the end, after tormenting them with follow up calls, I find out I didn't get it anyway!

Love the post today! :)

I am hoping that your first rant comes true for me sooner than later. This whole job hunting malarky is getting old. I want to be employed! I did not spend all of my time getting my Masters for nothin'. Sometimes I'd like to tell interviewers that, but I think they'd disapprove. Oops. :)

I totally hate it when I read a just ok book and then finish it just because i feel the need to do so AND what if in the last 20 pages gets really good? If I didn't finish it I would never know.

your battle with the bunny makes me giggle. you'll prevail.

DB said...

The bunny will prevail. They are sneaky little cute furry things. No fence = no brussel sprouts.

I so needed a good laugh I love coming over here on Wednesdays :).

I hate books that drag!

That is certainly good to hear. A great rave. Best of luck with the hunt and congrats on the award. Nice.

Rave: My pups giving my welcome home kissies when I've only returned from checking my mailbox..;-)

We had a bunny in our garden. My dog must have overheard us complaining, because he sure showed that bunny who's boss....(no more bunny problem)

I agree with your OK book rant. Lately I've found myself just putting down books that were just OK. I figure if I don't really like it, why should I suffer through? :)

Thanks for visiting my blog!

My theory on books: Life is too short to read a bad book.

There are millions of good books out there. Read those.

Rave: I am going to the Jimmy Buffett concert on Saturday. I cannot wait!

Rant: I still have two days left of work and all I want to do is start pregaming for the weekend!

I have the same rant about books I can't get into. I stopped reading Julie and Julia half way through.

Congrats on the award!

Rant: #$%*& Rabbits! they eat everything in their path. That's your problem, by the way, you call it a bunny. It'll never be scared of you if it knows you think of it as a "bunny"....and believe me, it knows. I've tried everything, and now I'm seriously contemplating buying a FOX call from one of the hunting websites like Cabellos. That'll teach those $%^#$ RABBITS!!
PS: loved your post.

JennyMac - that is annoying, but @ least you'll get away from them for 9 days!

Whysoserious - Thanks

Sunshinemeg - maybe they didn't realize the building had a staircase. :-) Have fun in OH...

lacochran - I sing ALONE @ home - I try not to scare people away on purpose.

erin - we have lots of chubby squirrels thanks to our hickory trees. I hate all squirrels (except 1/2 tail, he's lasted 2 seasons and I feel a little bad b/c he only has 1/2 a tail).

LaLa - it's not nice to gloat it causes wrinkles.

a corgi - hope your son gets a job soon and yes I purchased this book.

rxBambi - I can't wait to read next Wednesday's edition. Sad about Pharm Friday, but love what you write any day of the week. Btw, I don't live on the Cape, lived in Boston, now in CT.

Actor's Diet - hope you feel better soon.

Green Eyed - love that you do R&R Wednesdays - too large for the company to keep me in mind and the bunny disappeared last night (either the result of hubby being back or neighbor's cat lurking in yard). Besides, I'd want my pet to worship not mock me.

LiLu - that's one way to clear out a room :-)

girl inspired - thanks -- Hoarders is awesome...

otin - I am always hopeful about books and my ribs are doing much better. Still careful to lift heavy things, but I can sleep like a normal person and am not in constant pain.

Goose - Please do! that is the worst with recruiters. I was pleasantly surprised that she told me she'd let me know by next Tuesday

New England Girl - thanks - I think it will.

OP - EXACTLY - you understand.

mylittlebecky - no I won't. I end up laughing when I try to scare him off and he literally doesn't care. He mocks me. I make a fierce stare and then laugh.

DB - cayenne pepper = bunny not liking brussel sprouts.

Alexis AKA Mom - Thanks & so do I

Midlife - thanks

Midtown - I always ask for a side of dressing for that very reason --dogs are the best...

H-H - thanks

Pinay - The bunny is winning w/the cucumber, but I have him beat with my favorite veggie - the brussel sprout

Eyes Wide Open - I hope bunny only entered the witness protection program and just relocated.

Together we save - thanks

INKobsessions - I wish I could. Like Optimist Pessimist, I'm so hopeful the book will improve.

Yankee Girl - Jimmy Buffet is such a fun performer to see and attracts a great crowd. Have a great time.

PHST - I can see that with J&J. I kept reading and appreciated her journey. Not saying I enjoyed the main character, but respected and curious about her journey.

Erin P - You could be right, calling a rabbit a bunny gives it the upper hand. Try cayenne pepper. It is working for me.
