Rant and Rave Wednesday

Wednesday, December 16, 2009...

Any readers following me on a regular basis know if it's Wednesday, it's time to Rant and Rave about the past week. Without further adieu, here are my Rants and Raves from the past week:

Rant: Shopping at a specialty spice store where no one really can be of assistance and hearing "my bad" from the help.

Rave: Tomorrow is my food pantry dinner and I've lost a net of 6.8 lbs this month (I actually lost 9.4, but gained 2.6 the week of Thanksgiving) and am happy with the number.

Rant: I'm insane in the fact that I'm making Julia Child's Beef Wellington for tomorrow night's dinner and am hand chopping the mushrooms and making brioche from scratch (never had this).

Rave: See above. I love trying new things.

That's it for me. Okay, I'm in the process of chopping and simmering so very little time to think. But I would love to hear if you have any Rants and Raves you want to share? I would love to read them. Just click on the linky thing for anyone that wants to participate in Rant and Rave Wednesday -- or leave them in the comments section here. Please be respectful and do not use the linky thing if you are just promoting your blog (yes, this is another Rant of mine).

I hope you let us know how the beef wellington turns out.

I'm not allowed to chop anything. My fingers would inevitably end up under the knife.

Brioche from scratch! My, woman, you are brave... do tell how it goes!

Mmmmm...beef Wellington. Best I had was a restaurant in Chicago called the Bakery. Good luck.

Mrs. MM and I have had recent discussions about the state of customer service in retail. Running away seems to be the store policy of the day.

OMG - congrats on the weight loss doll!! That is so fabulous ;-)

How come store employees have no idea what is in their inventory - hello this what they sell all day..sheesh!

I think I'll say, "My bad" to a parent sometime.

Good luck with your dinner!! I am sure it will be divine!
RANT: flat iron on the fritz-goes on only when it feels like it
RANT: battery died on my jeep behind ST. Vincents-for those who don't know...it's not the best area for a skinny white girl with 2small boys to get stuck)
RAVE: some very nice people jumped my battery and got me on my way!!

I'm so proud of you on your weight loss. I have picked up some extra weight during this unemployment depression I'm in.
I hope the beef wellington turns out fabulously! You are a brave woman taking on such a task.
I'm not playing along this week because I don't think I can come up with any raves besides the fact that I'm healthy!

Big hugs!!

Wow, that's a great weight loss!! Any hints on how you did it would be much welcomed. I think I'm too wiped out to rant or rave...so my rant would be WHY am I not better after 3 1/2 weeks?

good for you with the weight loss! dinner sounds delicious (but a lot of work)

I think retail is a hard job, but the words "my bad" should never be uttered from any clerk (in my opinion)

No doubt - you are insane. But as to whether it comes from hand chopping or not is still undecided!

It's not just spice stores where the shopping experience leaves much to be desired. No wonder everyone is moving to online shopping. (BTW, the San Fransisco Herb Company is great for really good herbs and spices.)

Unknown Mami - I will. Dinner is Thursday night and I just hope I don’t kill a soul.

Badass Geek - So you’re like the porn star on Bravo’s Chef Academy?

Melanie’s Randomness – Ahhh….that’s Beef Bourguignon, which I’ve made and am making for Christmas Day.

rxBambi – Rant – It does! Rave – Dinner is Thursday, but takes 2 days prep

JennyMac – thanks

LiLu – Oh I caved (translation too lazy or didn’t really factor in time) and am using puff pastry.

Monkey Man – Thanks and I’m just hoping I don’t kill a soul. You’re right about customer service, although, I had a very pleasing experience in Bed, Bath & Beyond last week.

Brian Miller – Yup. My Bad. I just stood there because I was in shock.

Midtown Girl – Thanks, I’m happy too.

Jules – LMAO --- this would be the part in a Mastercard commercial where they show what’s priceless.

Herding Cats – If I had a digital camera I would.

Girl Inspired – I know exactly where you were and not good. I’m glad to hear good people were there to get you out of the jam.

Green Eyed Momster – Thanks and that’s okay that you’re not playing. I hope things get much better for you.

Erin P – Weight Watchers --- but food journaling and exercising were the key (lost 7.4 lbs in one week). When I don’t plan or track, I don’t see any results.

That corgi – Thank you. Retail is a hard job, but I think you know what you sign up for when you accept a position.

Dan – You could be right about the insane comment. I don’t think handchopping has anything to do with it. Thanks for the tip on the San Francisco Herb Company. I’m just surprised that Penzey’s would not have better standards since they take pride in this fact.

I am going to watch that Julia Childs movie this week. I have never tried her recipes (to make rather) but I have tasted them, and they are generally rather tasty!
